I am in southwest us and i ve never seen a second floor kitchen so if you live in a place where every kitchen is on the second floor forgive my ignorance.

Do kitchens go on the second floor.

You won t likely own this home forever and when you go to sell it you will have a hard time doing so because the general public won t go for having a second floor kitchen.
Do consider where you can tie in to existing plumbing.
Yes i think it s odd for a kitchen to be on a second floor.
To make up for lost cabinet space there are a few open shelves in front of the window which add storage but still let light in.

Why are kitchens never on the second floor of a house.
																	Just look at those windows.
Don t put the laundry too close to sleeping areas.
And for nighttime or cloudy days there s still plenty of overhead lighting in the way of.

																	There are so many.
Close to kitchens and washrooms obviously makes sense.
On a second floor try to position it so it backs onto a bathroom.
Because the kitchen is on the second floor it gets a ton of natural light.

Don t ignore the importance of good ventilation.
The kitchen wall behind the range continues to a second floor bedroom so we do have a straight shot up and from what i can tell without having opened any walls the studs line up pretty well on both floors.
I think the other question you should ask is what that will do to the re sale value of the home.
The noise will keep you awake.
